The Biomechanics of a Strong Core

Beyond the Rectus Abdominis

In mainstream fitness, the 'core' is often reduced to the visible rectus abdominis. However, from a biomechanical perspective, the core is a complex 360-degree cylinder. It includes the transverse abdominis (TVA), the multifidus, the obliques, the diaphragm, and the pelvic floor.

The Principle of Intra-Abdominal Pressure (IAP)

True core strength is the ability to generate and manage pressure. Bracing is 20-30% more effective at stabilizing the spine than hollowing.
